Review: Bird of Prey By: Danielle-Claude Ngontang Mba

Synopsis

Sémya Slotin had spent the last three years living in London with her best friend Polliannah Koch staying away from solving cases. After Hawaii, she was taking a break from puzzles, cases and mysteries that could potentially get her killed. Instead, she had been doing her second and third favorite things, drinking and selling expensive vintage wines and having earthshattering sex with the mysterious, sexy, beautiful but ever so secretive Josh Heinz. Life in London was good…until her funds ran out. Too much wine drinking, not enough wine selling!

When fashion designer and adoptive mother, Annika Slotin, summoned her back to Paris to hire her for what Sémya considered being the easiest case of her amateur sleuth career, all she could think of and see was money signs and a well-deserved Cuban holiday once it was solved.

What Sémya didn’t see was her stumbling on the fresh corpse of supermodel Johanna Cartier. She didn’t think that male model turned fashion designer Julian Marais-Caldwin, who also happened to be Sémya’s ex, would be suspected of brutally murdering her. Johanna was his girlfriend, his muse and he loved her. Sémya didn’t see the dead bodies piling up or the conspiracy theories.

Sémya was a little rusty. But then again, it was supposed to be an easy case and she was going to solve it. One vintage wine at a time… Sémya Slotin was officially back in business!

My Review

Let's just say this was not my normal read, however I really did like it. The mystery/ love story I fell for it right away it was for sure a page turner.  I wasn't to for sure about the hole mystery part I have a hard time following those and just turning the page with them, but this one was different I don't know if it was all the hott love parts or the really really good parts that made you turn the page.  This author for sure knew what the hell she was doing.

Sémya was this strong women who was falling in love but not admitting it, and loved a good mystery also while getting on her mother's bad side. She's this independent woman who has a not so good past but is surrounded by great friends that love her even if she's dating this guy who is totally hott and very secretive yes, I mean Josh.  Josh I don't know about him he's for sure a man of mystery and that is hard to pin point I'm just glad that Sémya ends up with Josh and not Julian he seems like he was a jerk. :(

I really can't wait for the second part of this story I got only a taste of the second story at the end and let's just say I want more.  More mystery and more love I really want to find out what's going on with Josh and Sémya. Do they stay together? Does she finally make a career move? And what about all her boards?  Yes I know you probley don't know what I'm talking about but that's kinda almost the point so it get's you to buy a copy and read it. Heck I enjoyed it and I bet you would to.

The mystery was hard to follow but that's just me some things did get cleared up for me and it made it great I really enjoyed that. I didn't really care for how much Sémya was around Julian I think that could have been different after all she did move and so did he right? At least that's what it seemed like in the story. I also liked the fact that is was written like I was really in London having never been the language was great also very much appreciated the translation of the different languages that were spoken that helped out a lot. I felt like I was in London as a shadow reading this like I was really their the details was great.

This is for sure should be on everyone's must read list!!!

Author's Corner

I'm an Afro-Canadian chick-lit writer... That was a mouthful!
My first novel This Could Have Been Our Song! A coulda woulda shoulda ballad (Book 1 of the Coulda Woulda Shoulda Songs Series) has just been released in January. I currently live in London but I'm still a Canuck at heart. When I'm not living the bohemian life in South East London, I'm hard at work on the second book, This Would Have Been Our Song! Catchy Tunes and Dancers Tales.
