~ What's It About? ~
My name is Essalin Brant, but everyone calls me Essa. I attend a small college in a tiny town, and in my twenty-two years of life I’ve never even traveled outside the state of Pennsylvania. You could say my life is pretty boring. I live by the rules. I’m a good girl and nothing exciting ever happens.
But that’s all about to change.
Enter Farren Shaw. Not only is he older and intimidating, but he’s more sure of himself than any 29-year-old man has a right to be. Did I mention that he’s drop-dead gorgeous? Well, he is. He also happens to be my best friend Haven’s brother. And I would be content with just fantasizing about Farren from afar, but when Haven suddenly goes missing, her gorgeous brother is the only one who believes me when I say she was abducted, even though all signs seem to suggest Haven left town willingly.
I know better, though. As does Farren. So when he asks me to accompany him to search for his sister, I accept.
That’s when the real adventure begins.
Our quest to find Haven takes us across the country. And throughout the time we spend together, I find myself falling for Farren . . . falling hard. He's everything I’ve ever wanted. But is he really someone I should fear?
Because aside from making me feel things I’ve never felt before, Farren is hiding something. Something big. What could this stunning man be keeping from me? And why? Is Haven’s disappearance somehow connected to his mysterious job?
All I know is that things are about to get real.
Welcome to the Inevitable Detour that has become my life.

~ Excerpts ~
When the door swings open, I am graced by the presence of one damn fine-looking man. I forget about bugs; I forget about my skimpy outfit. All I can do is mouth, “Wow,” while I peruse Farren from head to toe.
He’s sporting just the right amount of sexy scruff, darkening his strong jaw. The top half of his body is bare, his shoulders appearing wider and stronger than when he’s clothed. Perhaps it’s due to all the muscles. Damn, he’s cut. My eyes travel down Farren’s smooth chest to his washboard abs, and then to the fine trail of dark hair that disappears just under the band of dark boxer briefs. Black boxers, I take note. I had a feeling.
“Essa?” Farren rasps in a sleep-thick but utterly sexy voice. He crosses his arms, muscles bunching, and leans against the frame of the door.
His green eyes meet mine. And, oh, that look. I know that look; I probably have it, too. I have two choices here: jump the man or make a joke and dispel the almost-combustible sexual tension between us.
I choose to joke.
With me in the driver’s seat of a car I never dreamed I’d ever even sit in—let alone drive—I barrel down a long stretch of blacktop desert road that’s as straight as an arrow.
“I can’t remember ever feeling this free,” I shout to Farren over the loud engine noise and wind.
He smiles. “You’re doing great,” he shouts back.
“Damn, Farren”—wind whirs through the open top, blowing my hair everywhere—“this thing is fast.”
He chuckles, nods. But at 150 mph, he urges me to “ease up a little, baby.”
My cheeks warm, and it’s not from the blazing sun beating down on us. No, I’m heated by the recollection of how Farren uttered those same words to me an hour ago, before we left the warehouse, and after he’d loaded our luggage and his cache of weapons into the Ferrari. His hand trailed up my skirt when he was back in the car. I was seated in the driver’s seat, and within minutes, I was grinding down hard on his fingers.
Now, just like then, I don’t listen.
I don’t ease up, and when we hit a patch of gravel, the wheel jerks in my hand. I lose control—again, just like earlier. But instead of coming hard, like I did clenched around Farren’s fingers, my whole body now tenses in a different way.
“Essa,” Farren warns.
Finally, I ease up on the gas and hit the brakes. The car fishtails but remains on the road. When we come to a full stop, I let out a held-in breath. “Oh my God, that was awesome.”
Farren twists in his seat, placing his hand at the back of my head. He twines his fingers in my hair and closes the gap between us. His lips crash to mine, hungry and greedy. We can’t get enough of each other these days. I lose myself in Farren as he urges my mouth open. He touches his tongue to mine. He tastes delicious, even as he consumes me.
~ Quote Spotlight and why the author (S.R. Grey) likes them ~
1) “And maybe Farren doesn’t come with promises, but I do.”
This quote sums up Essa’s commitment to Farren early on.
2) “We breathe together, joined as one.”
Just so pretty. A quote from when Essa and Farren are falling in love. *sigh*
3) “Two hundred miles into our travels I’m kind of done with snapping photos of passing scenery. I do, however, sneak in a few great profile shots of Farren. Strong jaw, light stubble, sunglasses…Yeah, those pics promise to be keepers.”
Oh yeah, that man is gorgeous. A quote to remind us of Farren Shaw’s indisputable hotness.
4) “Farren searches my eyes while cupping the side of my face. His thumb brushes over my bottom lip. “So soft,” he murmurs, like he’s a little bit amazed by me.”
Farren isn’t immune to Essa. And this quote illustrates his true feelings.
~ Author Interview ~
1) Your two prior series, Harbour Falls and Judge Me Not, fall into the Romantic Suspense and New Adult genres, respectively. Which genre does your new series, Inevitability, best fit?
Inevitable Detour (Inevitability #1) is a New Adult novel first and foremost. The heroine, Essa Brant, is a college student, twenty-two, who is trying to find her place in the world. She’s learning about life and love while dealing with many unexpected things. Farren Shaw, the hero, is somewhat of a mystery. The circumstances surrounding him add the elements of Romantic Suspense to the novel, as do the situations they get involved in because of Farren. So, in that sense, Inevitable Detour is both New Adult and Romantic Suspense in terms of genres.
2) Speaking of the heroes in your novels, all three—Adam from Harbour Falls, Chase from I Stand Before You, and Farren Shaw from Inevitable Detour—have strong alpha-male attributes. Compare and contrast the three men.
True, they are all alphas! I think we all like reading about handsome, strong men who love and care for their ladies. All my lead male characters are like that. They are loyal and committed once they know they’re in love.
Now, for the differences.
Adam Ward (Harbour Falls trilogy) is a super-successful businessman. He’s rich, brilliant, and used to getting his way. Chase Gartner (Judge Me Not series) is the quintessential bad boy. He’s tatted, tall, and beautiful. He’s a man who has seen and done it all—fighting, drugs, alcohol, women. Chase has even served time in prison. But he’s also an alpha looking to heal his fractured past and find peace in the present with the love of his life, Kay.
Then, there is Farren Shaw (Inevitability series). He is probably the most alpha of the three men. He’s ex-military, Special Forces, a man not to be trifled with. He can kick ass, and when he falls for Essa Brant, he’ll do anything for her. The readers will discover a sweet, thoughtful side to this strong and silent man when he’s around Essa. Still waters run deep and all that jazz.
3) There are a couple of shockers in Inevitable Detour, particularly toward the final chapters. And that ending…. I need book #2, Inevitable Circumstances, like yesterday. When can we expect it?
True, there are a couple of surprises, some bigger than others. I’m purposely being cryptic to avoid spoilers. In any case, the second novel of the duology will be in reader’s hands Spring 2015. Not too long of a wait, right?
4) How did Inevitable Detour come about? What was the first grain of that idea?
Oh, good question. Actually, I thought the story would be something very different when the idea first came to me. I had the characters in my head, Farren and Essa, and I saw turmoil, but I wasn’t sure what kind and/or why.
The first scene I imagined and wrote was Farren and Essa at the Blue Cactus Inn. I saw the neon hotel sign, bathing the room in blue. I saw them taking shots, having fun, and I knew this night would be a pivotal point in their relationship. It all came together from that point on.
5) Final fun question… Chocolate or vanilla?
Chocolate!
~ Character Interviews ~ Essalin Brant ~
Interviewer: Hey, Essa. *Interviewer sits down and gives a little wave* Hello and welcome. Glad you could join us here today.
Essa: Aww, of course. *Essa takes a seat across from interviewer* Thank you for having me.
Interviewer: So, let’s get right to it, shall we?
*Essa nods*
In Inevitable Detour you not only take a physical trip (across the country), but you also embark on a journey of self-discovery. How did all that come about?
Essa: *takes a deep breath* Well, it’s kind of a long story, but let me try and sum it up. I always followed my parents’ rules, but I knew the life they’d directed me into wasn’t the life I wanted to be living. Their intentions were honorable. It’s just their dreams weren’t my dreams. Know what I mean? *interviewer nods*
So, anyway, I was starting to rebel, beginning to cut loose, and when Haven went missing… Well, there was just no time for dragging my feet. I had to take a stand. I had to take that inevitable detour and begin my journey.
Interviewer: Has Farren Shaw helped in this journey of finding yourself?
Essa: *pauses, takes a breath* Yes, immensely. Farren has helped a lot.
Interviewer: I can definitely see you care deeply for him. Tell us more about this fascinating man Farren Shaw.
Essa: *dreamy-eyed* Oh, Farren. He’s everything a woman could possibly want: gorgeous face, a bod to die for… I could go on and on. But his best attributes are the ones within him—his fierce protectiveness, his huge capacity for love.
Interviewer: *wistful look* And he sure loves you.
Essa: Yes, he does.
Interviewer: *sigh* Okay, so back to the questions… What is your favorite part of Inevitable Detour?
Essa: Oh, that’s easy. My favorite part of the book is falling for Farren. I had crushed on him from afar for ages. Meeting him…well, it just blew me away. And the best part of everything was getting to know him. Because of the circumstances, we grew close quickly. I guess when it’s right, it’s right.
Interviewer: Are you excited for Inevitable Circumstances, the conclusion to the Inevitability duology?
Essa: Well, uh, yeah. If you read Inevitable Detour you’ll know I now need Farren more than ever.
Interviewer: Pfft, that’s for sure!
********both grow quiet*******
Interviewer: We should probably wrap this up. Thank you for talking with us today.
Essa: Thank you for having me.
